Conners-3 (Conners 3rd Edition) is one of the most widely used and validated instruments internationally for assessing symptoms associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as well as behavioural and emotional difficulties in children and teenagers.
This standardised instrument helps identify difficulties with attention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, self-regulation, and executive functioning, providing important information to clarify a diagnosis, develop a personalised intervention plan, and monitor therapeutic progress.
The Conners-3 assessment uses standardised questionnaires completed by parents, teachers, and, depending on age, the child or teenager. This approach allows behaviour to be analysed across different settings, such as home and school.
Who is it for? Conners-3 is designed for children and teenagers aged 6 to 18 and is recommended when ADHD is suspected or when there are difficulties with concentration, impulsivity, hyperactivity, organisation, learning, or behaviour. Self-report questionnaires can be used from the age of 8.
Who administers the test? The assessment is coordinated and interpreted by a psychologist qualified to use the instrument. The questionnaires are completed by people who know the child’s behaviour across different settings, and the results are analysed and integrated into the psychological assessment process.
Duration: completing a questionnaire takes approximately 5–20 minutes, depending on the version used. The full assessment process may include a clinical interview, gathering information from parents and teachers, interpreting the results, and formulating recommendations.
The results provide a detailed picture of attention and behavioural difficulties, helping identify individual needs and establish intervention strategies. Conners-3 does not establish an ADHD diagnosis on its own; it is an important component of a comprehensive clinical assessment.
Main areas assessed:
- Attention and concentration
- Hyperactivity and impulsivity
- Executive functions and organisational difficulties
- Learning problems
- Oppositional and aggressive behaviours
