    ADOS-2

ADOS-2 – Standardised assessment for autism diagnosis

ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition) is one of the most widely used and validated instruments internationally for assessing autism spectrum disorders (ASD). This standardised test allows direct observation of the child’s or adult’s behaviour in structured and semi-structured situations, providing essential information for diagnosis, intervention planning, and understanding the specific needs of the person assessed.

The ADOS-2 assessment is adapted according to age and language level, with several modules (from young non-verbal children to verbal adolescents and adults).

Who is it for? ADOS-2 can be used from 12 months of age through adolescence and adulthood, and is recommended when autism spectrum disorder is suspected or when a previous diagnosis needs clarification.

Who administers the test? The assessment is conducted by a professional trained and certified in ADOS-2 administration (clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, or other mental health professional), in a controlled, calm setting adapted to the person assessed.

Duration: approximately 40–60 minutes depending on the module used. The results provide a clear picture of behaviours relevant to diagnosis and can be part of a comprehensive assessment alongside interviews, questionnaires, and further observations.

    • Verbal and non-verbal communication
    • Social interaction
    • Symbolic play and repetitive behaviours
