ABAS-II (Adaptive Behavior Assessment System – Second Edition) is a standardised psychological instrument that assesses adaptive skills in children, teenagers, and adults, providing a detailed picture of how a person meets the demands of daily life.
Adaptive skills are essential for independent, effective functioning across settings (home, school, community), and assessing them is important both for diagnosis and for planning intervention.
Who is it for? ABAS-II can be used from 0 years 6 months through 89 years, and is useful in evaluating typical and atypical development, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, or other adaptive difficulties.
How is it administered? ABAS-II is completed by people who know the individual well (parents, teachers, caregivers), on paper or electronically. The clinical psychologist analyses responses and provides a detailed interpretation in an assessment report.
The results support psychological and educational diagnosis, individualised intervention planning, and monitoring progress over time.
- Conceptual (communication, self-direction, basic academic functions)
- Social (relationship skills, social responsibility, rule-following)
- Practical (self-care, safety, use of community resources)
- General adaptive composite (GAC)
